This past April, we began our project on the restoration of the Crane Estate’s Italian Garden, located on Argilla Road in Ipwish, MA.  Our team will restore the masonry, install new drainage, and make structural repairs to the water basin of the garden. The project is set to be completed this year, and patrons will be able to enjoy the newly restored gardens come November.

This past April, we began our project on the restoration of the Crane Estate’s Italian Garden, located on Argilla Road in Ipwish, MA.

The Crane Estate is a 2,100-acre property that was once owned by Richard T. Crane Jr. in the early 1900’s.  Castle Hill— the estate’s famous mansion that sits atop a 165-acre drumlin surrounded by sea and marshland—was the Crane’s former summer home up until 1949.  The property is now owned by the Trustees of Reservations and open to the public.

Castle Hill exemplifies the American Country Place Era; the property features characteristic farm houses, Italian Renaissance-style estate buildings, lawn and terraces, European style rose gardens, and diverse natural areas teaming with wildlife.

The scope of our work includes restoring the masonry, installing new drainage, and structural repairs to the water basin of the Italian Garden.  The project is set to be completed this year, and patrons will be able to enjoy the newly restored gardens come November.
